I have just returned from a funeral that I had no idea was occurring until about 15 minutes before it began. It was a funeral for a young 23 year old woman who fought and overcame an intense form of leukemia and struggled with health issues throughout the rest of her life.
I did not know this young woman at all, but the funeral was held here on our church property and I was grabbed to help run lights for the service. As the service opened, I was more concerned with my ability to run the lights than anything else, but as the service unfolded, I was drawn into an appreciation for this young woman and her tremendous impact on the people that she touched.
I cannot remember a funeral where the words spoken carried such depth and feeling. One of the most eloquent, passionate speeches I have ever heard was delivered at the open-mic session where people from the audience had a chance to share their memories.
I would hope if someone is at my funeral who doesn't know me, that they would walk away worshipping the God of the Universe, Jesus Christ, as I did walking away from this funeral today. What an honor to have a testimony beyond the grave like this young girl named Christy. I can't think of anything greater for a devoted follower of Jesus than to testify of his greatness from beyond the grave.

Paul,
Thanks for your help with the funeral service Wednesday. It was encouraging to hear that you were impacted in a positive way too. By the way you did a great job running lights--if the FIT thing doesn't work out, come talk to me...
Joe
