We placed our home on the market at the end of the day on May 28, 2009. May 29 we began receiving calls for people to view the home. Amy and I were actually out celebrating our anniversary when the calls started arriving! Within the first couple weeks we had around 13 showings!! That's a lot. But then in the next two weeks leading up to Independence Day, we have not even had one. It seems like either feast or famine. With Independence Day being a holiday weekend, we didn't expect any showings, but sure enough, we got a call early Friday morning for a showing that afternoon.
Both Amy and I had a weird feeling about this one. The showing was over by 3:30 and by around 6:00 we had word of an offer! As expected, the first offer was very low, but it seems like there was something to work with. We made a counter that didn't move much but showed that we were willing to negotiate. At that point, their realtor called ours and said that this wouldn't work because we were not even close. She did give us a number where it might work, but it was over $10,000 below what we were asking
Now I must say that we are so eager to sell the house that we did give some thought to this quasi-offer. Sure it was not high enough, but if we countered close to that, maybe they would do it. Fortunately for us, though. We didn't do that. We needed to continue to wait.
to be continued...
