In February of this year, I successfully completed my first major running race, a half marathon. After that race, I thought about my next goal and had seriously considered participating in a sprint triathlon (I had a leg injury after the half marathon that kept me from running for about two months so I needed an activity, swimming, to stay in condition.)
Well, the sprint triathlon I had considered participating in was this past weekend, and I did not participate. Not because I didn't have the time, but because I was not even close to ready. After the run and the injury, I have been struggling to get back into a consistent running routine.
People say life happens and that was true for me. Some might say I was justified, others might not; it really doesn't matter now. The key in these situations is how do we respond to life when it "happens." We adjust and move forward. That is what is happening now for me.
While one day I may participate in a sprint triathlon, my first step is to get my running routine back to an acceptable level. Once I have done that, I can take on the challenge of learning to swim and going the 500 meters necessary for a Sprint Triathlon. I also need to work on the biking piece but that will not be as daunting to me as the swimming.
Hopefully in the future I can blog about a successfully completed sprint triathlon, but until then, you can read about it from my good friend and encourager on my journey to health. He just completed the Hickory Knob Sprint triathlon and has blogged about it here. Congratulations William!
