This past February I completed a significant personal accomplishment by running in and finishing a half marathon (13.1 miles.) Along with the physical accomplishment the journey to complete the run was the true benefit that I received. My entire outlook on my physical (and spiritual) life took some dramatic turns during the process.
Well this week is an anniversary of sorts. It was a year ago that I sensed God's direction to run in a half marathon and that he began to put the gears into motion for all that needed to happen for me to accomplish it. What brought it to my attention was the meeting I was having with an associate here at the church. The same associate and the same meeting one year ago that God used to encourage me along the process of making the commitment to train and run in the half marathon.
This year finds me in a different place. In some ways I am more ready to run another half marathon, but in other ways I am not. I've had a good week of workouts so far and am excited about what lies ahead; whether it be a half-marathon, a sprint triathlon, or whatever else God may present.
Without a destination you don't have anywhere to go, but it is truly the journey that is important.
