You Can't Take it With You

Have you heard that phrase before, "You can't take it with you!"? Many times that is what someone says before making a big donation to charity or spending a large amount of money on a house, boat or even a big screen TV. Well guess what, they're exactly right. Regardless of how much money you have, you cannot take it into Eternity with you.

However, there is something that you can take into Eternity with you. Relationships. Specifically relationships with people who share your trust in Jesus Christ as their only hope for eternal life. Your relationships with these people will not be ended when you (or they) die, they will just be broken. At some point, those relationships will be able to be renewed.

There are many significant truths that can be taken away from this, but I want to only focus on one here. Let me shape this truth in the form of a question. If your relationships are the only thing that you have now that will last for eternity, what does that say about their importance? Is something that will last forever more important than something like money or fame that will only last for 70-80 years at the most? We can spend way too much of our time focusing on everything in life that we cannot take with us into eternity, and neglecting the one thing that we can. Our relationships with family, with friends, with associates and even with partners in ministry.

The next time that you have an opportunity to deepen a relationship, take it. It will have eternal value.
