Why a Half-Marathon?

Over the last couple weeks, I have been asked this question a couple times and I thought this would be a good place to tell that story. If you were around me in high school, you probably are completely amazed that I would even consider running a mile, let alone a 13 mile race. Even as late as 16 months ago, running a race, and especially a 1/2 marathon was the furthest thing from my mind.

So why a half-marathon? Well, none of this would even be possible if not for the complete change in thinking about my health and fitness that began in January 2007. That is a story for a different time, but by the summer of 2007, I was committed to being a person who lived a healthy lifestyle and kept in physical shape.

In the fall of 2007 I was floundering a bit with my current exercise routine and was looking for some new goals that would help motivate me to continue on in my healthy lifestyle. For some reason (and I don't remember specifically why) the idea of running and doing more aerobic training was forefront in my thinking and then I had a couple encounters that would change the course of the next couple of months in my life.

To be continued...
